1. Introduction

Pasthrough ("we", "our", "us") operates the Pasthrough mobile application and website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and optionally a profile photo, username, and home city. If you sign up via Google, we receive your basic profile information from Google.

2.2 Travel Data

You may log places you have visited, including city, country, dates, mood, ratings, journal entries, and photos. This data is created by you and stored on our servers.

2.3 Location Data

We store geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) for places you add. We do not track your real-time location in the background. Location access is only used when you explicitly search for a place or use the "locate me" feature on the map.

2.4 Photos

Photos you upload are stored on Cloudinary, a third-party cloud storage provider. EXIF metadata (including GPS data) is automatically stripped from uploaded photos before storage.

2.5 Usage Analytics

We use Countly to collect anonymous usage analytics such as screen views, feature usage, and crash reports. These analytics do not include personally identifiable information. You can opt out via your device settings.

2.6 Push Notifications

If you enable push notifications, we store your device push token to send you trip reminders, social notifications, and other relevant alerts. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the Pasthrough service
• To display your travel data on maps, timelines, and statistics
• To enable social features (following, feed, likes, comments)
• To generate AI-powered travel suggestions and itineraries when you use AI features
• To send push notifications you have opted into
• To improve the app through anonymous analytics
• To respond to support requests

4. AI Features

When you use AI-powered features (trip planning, chat assistant), your trip data and conversation messages are sent to Anthropic (Claude) to generate responses. We do not use your data to train AI models. Anthropic's data handling is governed by their own privacy policy.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

• Cloudinary — for photo storage and processing
• Anthropic — for AI-powered features (only when you use them)
• Countly — for anonymous usage analytics
• Resend — for transactional emails (verification, password reset)
• Other users — content you set to "public" visibility is visible to other Pasthrough users

6. Data Visibility

You control the visibility of your data. Places, trips, and profile can be set to "public" or "private". Private content is only visible to you (and trip members for shared trips).

7. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can export your data (CSV/GPX) at any time from the app settings. You can delete your account at any time, which permanently removes all your data including places, trips, photos, and social connections.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), bcrypt password hashing, secure token storage, rate limiting, and security headers (CSP, HSTS, etc.). Auth tokens are stored in your device's secure keychain.

9. Children's Privacy

Pasthrough is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can exercise these rights through the app settings (export data, edit profile, delete account) or by contacting us.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
